Tooth Removal & Extractions
Tooth extraction is a fairly standard procedure only performed by a trained dental professional.

Extraction
It is the safe removal of a tooth. This procedure is often performed at our office, so you’re in excellent, caring hands. It is sometimes called “pulling teeth” or “getting a tooth out.”
If you need a wisdom tooth extracted, our dentists will discuss your options to determine the best action. In certain circumstances, we may refer you to an oral surgeon.
Reasons for Extraction
There are a few reasons someone may need to get a tooth extracted:
- If a patient has a severe gum disease called periodontitis
- If a patient needs a tooth extracted to prepare for braces or orthodontic treatment
- If a tooth is causing crowding issues or damage to surrounding teeth
- If a tooth is impacted (cannot properly emerge through the gums)
- If a tooth has been broken and cannot be repaired
- If a tooth is heavily decayed and cannot be saved

Wisdom Teeth
Wisdom teeth are the third set of molars located in the back of the mouth, on the top and bottom. They usually erupt through the gums during the late teenage years or the early twenties.
They are mainly removed so they do not cause problems with the other teeth. Also, if the wisdom teeth only partially erupt through the gums, they may become difficult to clean, leading to plaque accumulation problems and tooth decay. In this circumstance, you may want to remove the wisdom teeth.
Another reason to remove wisdom teeth is if they are not positioned straight and do not erupt straight. This can cause crowding issues with your other teeth.
